Lemming Malloy - The Return of the Norfolk Regiment

$12.00

Neckbeard Records' first release, and a good 'un too. Liable to be one of the best albums you're going to hear in 2009, The Return of the Norfolk Regiment combines the sweet sounds of power pop with the muscle of progressive rock to form a highly original, exquisitely listenable record.

Lemming Malloy formed from the ashes of the beloved Eyes To Space, the keytar frontman Jay Cartwright smashed to bits at Eyes To Space’s final show seemingly refashioned into the ornate “marvelon” that provides the foundation of Lemming Malloy’s ear-friendly, prog-inflected rock. Wendy Spitzer (Eyes To Space, Felix Obelix) plays bass and bolsters Cartwright’s voice with her preternatural high-harmony vocals. Skinsman Dylan Thurston, who’s played with Eyes To Space and David Karsten Daniels, among others, drives Lemming Malloy’s rhythmic backbone while longtime Eyes To Space fan and guitar whiz-kid Joe Mazzitelli (I Was Totally Destroying It, Invasion) steps into the spotlight to slice wide swaths of six-string finesse over the songs. Where Eyes To Space was a fun and often funny band, Lemming Malloy builds upon its predecessor with a more focused outlook and a defined aesthetic paralleling the band’s sonic parables of self-reliance and individual growth. And they do it all with a Victorian aesthetic, adding an element of theatricality befitting the sound. “Lemming Malloy has concluded that steam-driven, handcrafted technologies of the 19th Century better reflect physical reality's unpredictable being because of these innovations' inherent charm, uniqueness and sense of wonder,” says Cartwright. “This yearning for an older aesthetic led the band to dress in Victorian-era garments and inspired me to construct The Marvelon, an instrument which appears to function via antiquated technologies and bears the ornate splendors of inventions of yore.”

Neckbeard Records is both a boutique record label and inane blog founded in early 2009 by Bryan Reed, Steve Salevan, Rachael Oehring and Allie Mullin. Neckbeard Records aims to contribute to the creative community by releasing limited-run recordings by artists selected for their unique voice in their local scene, and by helping said artists reach a wider audience. Each Neckbeard release is a one-of-a-kind keepsake, and 10 percent of the label’s total profits will be donated to a charitable organization chosen by the artist.

As per Lemming Malloy’s request, Neckbeard Records will donate 10 percent of its profits to The Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, an organization devoted to promoting worldwide research to cure Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Paralysis.
